ELVIS may have left the building, but he has put his stamp on the Southern Football League division 2 finals series with a match-winning performance for Oakleigh District on Saturday.
District star Elvis Alimovski kicked seven goals to lead his side to the SFL division 2 grand final against East Malvern at Jack Barker Oval, Sandringham this Saturday.
District coach Steven Wright said Alimovski, who switches between forward and midfield, was a key player in District's 43-point win over Skye in the preliminary final.
"He played very well and spent pretty much all day in the forward line," Wright said.
"He is just a focal point and is always good for us.
"He also takes a good player from the opposition."
Wright commended his players on their efforts to beat Skye, with whom they have had several close battles this season.
"We played a good brand of footy and it's pleasing when everything falls into place," he said.
"We trailed at quarter time but came back at them and at half-time we spoke about the fact they would keep coming back at us. It was a day to grind out a win and we managed to do that."
Wright said his side would take the game up to East Malvern in the grand final.
"We have had one win each against each other this season. They have some very good players so we will have to get our match-ups right and then it will come down to giving it our best shot on the day."
Wright said making the grand final was a boost for the whole club.
"Getting to the grand final is always a reward for the volunteers and the people at board level who put in lots of work over the season.
"The players are the lucky ones who get to run out and play on grand final day."
