Canberra's 104.7 has retained its No. 1 radio station rating despite 8500 fewer listeners tuning in between Monday and Friday.
In Nielsen rating figures issued today for the July 29 to August 25 period, Canberra 104.7 had an overall weekday audience share of 20.1 per cent, followed by ABC 666 with 14.8 per cent and MIX 106.3 with 12.6 per cent.
The sought-after 18-24 age bracket swung the dial to 104.7 with the most regularity with 34.2 per cent listening to the station, but it was a disappointing result compared with the previous survey period when the station commanded 41.6 per cent of the market.
The over-55s prefer ABC666 and ABCFM with more than a quarter listening to the public broadcaster's two channels.
In the breakfast slot ABC666 was the clear winner with 19.3 per cent of audience share but the station recorded a 0.3 percentage point drop in listeners during the time slot. Afternoon listeners overwhelmingly favoured Canberra 104.7, which recorded a 22.8 per cent share followed by MIX 106.3 on 16.2 and ABC 666 with 10.6 per cent.
Eoghan O'Byrne, general manager of Canberra FM Radio which operates both 104.7 and MIX 106.3, said the results were mixed. ''It's been an interesting day for us, we're happy with our combined share sitting at 47.7 per cent of the Canberra radio audience,'' Mr O'Byrne said.
But he said the MIX 106.3 breakfast team presented a challenge. ''We have work to do there and we know that, but across the day we come back.''
