London 2012: Shane Perkins wins bronze

FORMER Hughesdale cyclist Shane Perkins has praised his supporters and family after winning a bronze medal in the men’s sprint at the London Olympics last night.

Perkins was beaten by France’s Gregory Bauge in the semi-finals but still scored the bronze medal.

Great Britain’s Jason Kenny won the gold medal.

Perkins tweeted that the support had made all the difference in his success and thanked training partners Scott Sunderland and Matthew Glaetzer.

‘‘Wow what a feeling! Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words! Especially my Awsome team mates so much support!,’’ Perkins tweeted.

‘‘I want to thank @scottysundo and @MatthewGlaetzer for your support, fantastic training partners and team mates!! :-).’’

Perkins’ campaign is far from over as he will compete in the men’s keirin starting at 7 Melbourne time tonight.
