Ashwood College stabbing: 'It's an isolated incident', assures principal

THE principal of the school where a 15-year-old boy was stabbed this morning has moved to reassure parents that it is an isolated incident.

Ashwood College principal Kerrie Croft said that everything was back to normal at the school.

‘‘We’ve never had an incident like this before,’’ Ms Croft said.

‘‘This is a great school and it’s very community based and we always have had a safe school. ‘‘

About 8.40am, police were called to Ashwood College in Vannam Drive where a 15-year-old boy had received slashes to his upper body.

The victim was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital. No one else was injured.

A Victoria Police spokesman said detectives from the Monash crime investigation unit arrested a 15-year-old boy at a Chadstone address.  He was said to be assisting police with their inquiries.

Police are unable to confirm the weapon used in the attack.

Counselling services are available to students and support has been offered to the victim’s family.
