Parents urged to discuss depression

PARENTS are being urged to talk to their children about depression and anxiety so that children are informed about the changes in loved ones who are suffering depression.

Parents now have access to Family Focus, a DVD produced in conjunction with beyondblue.

"When parents talk openly about mental illness with their children, they are much more resilient to developing mental health problems themselves,"said Phil Robinson, chairman of the Australian Infant, Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health Association.

The DVD is available free from familyfocusdvd.com.au.
