Development battle: Anger growing

APPROVED

95 Warrigal Road, Hughesdale: four-storey residential building with 18 apartments

What the mayor said: "The land falls within a precinct of the Oakleigh major activity centre structure plan, where medium-rise residential and/or commercial developments are envisaged. "The height falls within the guidelines of the structure plan."

19 Morton Street, Clayton: a two-storey student accommodation building with 24 units

The mayor: "The use of this site for purpose-built student accommodation is considered appropriate, given that the site is about 100 metres south of Monash University.

"We required the developer to delete two units from the original plans so the upper levels of the building could be set back more from the side boundaries."

303-305 Huntingdale Road, Chadstone: a three-storey building with 26 apartments and a basement car park.

The mayor: "This development is close to the Jordanville railway station and employment and recreational opportunities."

REJECTED

8 Railway Parade North, Glen Waverley — development of a three-storey apartment building comprising 16 dwellings and basement-level car parking.

What the council said: "The design response ... does not suitably address the adjoining properties and is inconsistent with the general neighbourhood character ... The proposal ... would [harm] the amenity of the surrounding land."
