Chance to fight at home has Bendigo boxers primed for battles
4:00 AM | PLENTY of hours have gone into Danny Taggert’s and Hugh Trigg’s tuning-up at Frank Pianto’s gym as they preapre for next month’s bouts at Flora Hill Stadium. Unbeaten in six bouts this year, Taggert is eagerly awaiting the chance to compete in Bendigo for the first time. The same goes for Trigg as he builds up for another light- heavyweight match.
Thousands compete at primary schools' cross-country championships
4:00 AM | MORE than 3500 primary school students took up the challenge of running around the Bendigo Jockey Club course at yesterday’s cross-country championships. About 80 schools from central and northern Victoria were represented in the Campaspe, Goldfields and Sandhurst division titles.
4:00 AM | JOSH Bowe has been ruled out of Bendigo’s inter-league game against Gippsland this weekend, clearing the way for Gisborne’s Scott Walsh to make his debut for the Blue and Golds. Bowe’s corked thigh suffered during the Hawks’ two-point win over Kyneton last Saturday hasn’t responded to treatment this week.
Champ faces uphill battle at world titles
4:00 AM | Bendigo BMX world champion Jaclyn Wilson faces an uphill battle to get better acquainted with the BMX world titles track before her first race tomorrow night (AEST time). Wilson, who is defending her world title in the women’s 30-years-and-over cruiser class, had her first test run on the purpose-built indoor track in Birmingham yesterday.
4:00 AM | A PROFESSIONAL golfer who spent his early years in Bendigo has set a provisional world record for the lowest-ever round. Rhein Gibson, who was born in Bendigo and lived in Epsom, shot a record score of 55 in a recent round in the United States.
