Monash in control from outset to progress to semi-final

23 Jun, 2008 11:37 AM
A STIRRING Victorian Rugby Union Premier division 3 win by Monash University over Melton has set up a grudge match with top-of-the-table Power House in the semi-final this week.

Monash was in control from the start, with first-half tries to Justin Van Niekerk, Geoff Caine and Tukavala Tereva building a 15-0 half-time lead.

Melton fought back in the second half with two tries of its own, but a tiring Monash side was able to stay in front and polished it off with another try to take home the chocolates, 21-12.

Scrum half Van Niekerk received the Keith Murray Cup as best on ground for Monash.

Captain Dave Bradbury and lock Sam Inglis were also among the best, Inglis controlling the line-out for Monash.
