VRL: Grand plans Thunder struck

06 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
THE Waverley-Oakleigh Panthers may have been beaten in the Victorian Rugby League under-14 grand final but Saturday's proceedings at Fregon Reserve were declared a roaring success.

The Panthers fielded teams in five out of the six grand finals - winning the girls' tag and the under-11s but going down in the under 12, 14 and 16s.

The under-14s were in contention at half-time, trailing by just four points, but it was all one-way traffic in the second half as Northern Thunder stormed home 24-4.

Despite the miserable weather, a good crowd gathered to enjoy a chock-a-block schedule of matches, with the most thrilling game being the girls' tag, which went into extra time.
