MT Waverley teenager Angela Donald is one step closer to her dream of winning Olympic gold.
Angela, 14, was recently selected to represent Australia in gymnastics at the Singapore Youth Olympic Games.
After beginning gymnastics with Waverley Advanced Gymnastics Club at age nine, Angela was quickly identified by coaches as being destined for big things.
She now trains five days a week, both before and after school.
"Gymnastics keeps me busy, but I love it," Angela said.
"I'm so excited about making it to the Youth Olympics."
She said she hoped the Youth Olympics would be a stepping stone to the 2012 London Olympics.
"My dream has always been to make it to the Olympics. The feeling you get when you've been working so hard on a move, then you stick it, is just awesome.
"Gymnastics challenges you but it's fun."
Angela competes in vault, bars, beam and floor apparatus.
Her mother Susan, who will travel with her to Singapore, said the family was proud of her achievement.
"She's very focused. She has always had goals and worked hard for them."
Among Angela's growing list of achievements are selection to the Australian Junior Commonwealth Games squad and a silver medal at the Pre-Youth Olympic Cup in Germany earlier this year.
The 2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games run from August 14 to 26.
