LAST year bowls player Liam Garlick-Adams made the move from his tiny home club to play with Clayton in the Bowls Victoria premier league.
The move has paid dividends for Garlick-Adams with his selection in the Australia under-18 men's squad.
The 17-year-old, who hails from Neerim South near Warragul, said the move to the Clayton club gave him the chance to press for the Australian squad.
"Coming from a little town, moving on opened up a fair few opportunities because more people got to watch me, " he said.
The men's and women's squad's will attend a camp early next year. Two bowlers in each squad will be picked for the Trans-Tasman series against New Zealand in March.
Most days of the week Garlick-Adams takes the two-hour round trip from Neerim South to Clayton or other metro training venues.
He was introduced to the game at a come-and-try day he attended with his grandparents as an 11-year old. "I thought, this is pretty good, and went on from there."
The Clayton premier player can't help but imagine what it would be like to play for Australia. "It would be a great honour, very exciting. I will give it (making the side) my best shot. There is not too many times you get to play for your country."
