YOUNGSTER Tyrone Bronte will travel to New Zealand next year to compete in the Bauer Cup with the Australian under-12 inline hockey team.
Tyrone competed at the national championships in Western Australia last month as part of the under-11 Victorian inline hockey team.
From that competition and another competition held over the Queen's Birthday weekend in Moe, he was selected for the Australian team.
The Heathmont 10yearold, who has been playing inline hockey for about three years, said he was shocked to find out he had made the team. "I didn't think I was going to get in because I'm a rookie. It was very surprising."
Tyrone began skating after receiving a pair of skates for Christmas in 2005 and has since spent much of his time at skate parks and Bayswater Roller City, where he was introduced to inline hockey.
He plays ice hockey at the Olympic Ice Skating Centre in Oakleigh, inline hockey for Ballistyx Bulldogs in Bayswater, and has represented Victoria numerous times, winning two bronze, one silver and one gold medal.
