Shock win lifts Allen Shaul into big league

26 Apr, 2010 09:11 AM
ALLEN Shaul caused a major upset with an all-the-way win in the $29,000 group 3 Macro Meats Lizrene Classic at Sandown Park on Thursday night.

After scraping through to the final after finishing fourth in his heat last week, Allen Shaul started brilliantly from box 6 to establish an early lead.

Reign Over Me settled two lengths behind, with Next Top Model and last week's fastest heat winner, Symmetry, close behind.

At the back of the field, Reign Over Me looked set to reel in the leader, but Allen Shaul, in just his third start over Sandown's half-mile, kicked again on the line.

South Australian Satanic Cash flashed home for an eye-catching second placing, just half a length from the winner.

Trained by Andrea Dailly in Anakie, Allen Shaul was in his first group race final. The win took his career earnings to $69,515 from 34 career starts.

Attention now turns to Australia's richest greyhound race, the $143,000 group 1 Radio Sport 927 Sandown Cup. Heats for the 47th Sandown Cup will be run on Thursday, May 6 with the final on May 13.
