ROBERT Britton's enigmatic sprinter Prankster led all the way to win his Solo Melbourne Cup prelude event in 29.68 seconds at Sandown Park last Thursday night.
The son of triple-crown winner Bombastic Shiraz, Prankster began well from box seven and was never threatened, defeating a quality field by seven lengths.
The win was the 10th of his 20-start career, and improved his Sandown Park record to five wins from eight starts. Turanza Bale was equally impressive in his prelude, overcoming a chequered run to win by 5 lengths in 29.70 seconds.
Group race winners Aston Trivett and Birthday Boy won their events in style and the underrated Matching Outcome took advantage of a rails run to win in 29.89 seconds.
The winner of each Solo Melbourne Cup prelude earns a berth in the heats of Australia's richest greyhound race, the $250,000 group 1 Solo Melbourne Cup, the final of which will be run on Thursday, November 26.
The next Solo Melbourne Cup prelude series will be run on Thursday, September 17.
