FLASH Of Light sprinted away at the second running of The Dawson at Sandown Park last Thursday night, defeating a stellar field in a slick 29.45 seconds.
While trainer Mark Delbridge was cautious about his charge's chances from box 1 in the group3 race, the punters were unperturbed, sending Flash Of Light to the boxes as favourite.
Despite a reputation for being hit and miss at the start of her races, Flash Of Light began well for the second consecutive week and took up second place behind early leader Nova Surf through the first turn.
The pair cleared away from the chasing pack, establishing a four-length break before Flash Of Light made her move.
Sweeping around the outside of Nova Surf, Flash Of Light
raced to a powerful victory.
It was the second group race title for the Balliang-trained chaser, which won the group 2 Rookie Rebel at The Meadows in February.
The win was her 28th in 59 starts and the $40,000 first prize took her career earnings to more than $180,000.
Nova Surf was gallant in defeat, finishing three lengths adrift, with three-time group 1 winner Fedex a further two lengths away third.
Delbridge will take Flash Of Light to Albion Park for the group3 Queensland Cup before returning to Sandown Park for the $36,000 group 2 McKenna Memorial.
The heats for the McKenna Memorial will be run on July 8 and the final on July 15.
