CHELTENHAM'S Tom Power Horan came from behind to win the 2010 Victorian Junior Masters in a thrilling final day's play at Waverley Golf Club earlier this month.
Trailing overnight leader Ben Rogers of Sorrento by four shots, Power Horan emerged from the pack to challenge the leader with several steadying pars and held his nerve in the final rounds to win the 16th annual Masters by a stroke.
Power Horan shot 289 over the three-day tournament, considered the most prestigious in Australian junior golf, while Ryan Peake from Western Australia and Rogers both finished with 290.
The win guarantees Power Horan entry into the this year's Master of the Amateurs Tournament, which is the biggest amateur event in Australia, and is ranked in the top 50 amateur tournaments in the world. He also gained entry into the next Victorian Open.
Power Horan outclassed 190 of the best under-18 players in Australia and New Zealand to add his name to previous junior masters winners that included dual Australian Open champion Aaron Baddeley, Marc Leishman, Michael Sim and Jason Day.
Last year's Australian Open winner, Adam Scott, finished in the top five in the four years he competed in the junior masters.
Rogers, who topped the leader board for two days of the Masters, won the nett event. Playing off a four handicap, Rogers fired rounds of 65, 68, 70 and 71.
DJLoyour won the under-16 section, ahead of Ben Eccles and Sean Ong. Fraser Droop won the under 14 section, while Reanna Matthews won the girls' title by eight shots from Britney Mueck.
