KEYSBOROUGH'S Southern Golf Club played host to a record-breaking fund-raising event, with the sixth annual Bailey's Day charity golf day netting over $180,000 for Monash Medical Centre in Clayton.
Bailey's Day is named after young Bailey Tessier, who died of a brain tumour in 2004 just short of his second birthday.
The day has now raised more than $780,000, which funds the employment of a clinical fellow at Monash Medical Centre's Children's Cancer Centre and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute's research into brain tumour biology.
The money was raised through an auction lunch - attended by nearly 300 people - with the big-ticket items including a Titleist glove, ball and cap signed by Adam Scott after he won the Australian Open and a Cobra driver signed by Geoff Ogilvie.
Identities Tracy Bartram and Bob Valentine donated their time, as did the colourful Geoff Cox from Coxy's Big Break.
Bailey's father Patrick said 135 golfers braved the poor weather.
"We were amazed. This was our biggest haul by a long shot. Bailey was a beautiful kid. When he died, I gave a donation to the hospital and asked how I could help. Bailey's Day was born."
