17 Dec, 2007 07:26 AM
A RECORD number of 405 teams from Australia and New Zealand competed in Australia's biggest school volleyball tournament last week.

The week-long competition involving teams from 116 schools was held at the Victoria Volleyball Centre in Dandenong and the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Sports Minister James Merlino was courtside watching the opening match of the competition at the new multimillion-dollar volleyball centre in Dandenong.

A feature of the opening ceremony was a boys' team from New Zealand performing the traditional haka.

It was followed by a school banner parade and music from bands.
