Monash holds on for draw

06 Jul, 2009 10:24 AM
MONASH University played a 2-2 draw in a top-of-the-table Provisional League 1 south-east clash against Fitzroy City on Saturday.

The first half was a one-sided affair, with Monash creating several scoring opportunities but unable to convert.

Against the run of play, Fitzroy's Zoran Ninkovis scored at the 30-minute mark, but Monash replied quickly through Liam Johnson before half-time.

Fitzroy dominated early in the second half and was rewarded at the 70-minute mark when Ninkovic scored his second goal.

Not to be outdone, Munyaradzi Nyadzayo got through the Lions' defence to score Monash's second goal and scores were locked at 2-all at full time.

Monash dropped to third on goals scored after Mornington defeated Old Scotch but remains on track for promotion to State League 3 south-east next year.
