MT Waverley student Kate Fotopoulos hopes to one day play for the Matildas, Australia's women's soccer team.
The promising striker's dream has moved one step forward.
The 15 year old, who has represented Victoria indoor and outdoor teams, was awarded one of 40 scholarships at the National Training Centre.
The scholarships are designed to improve the players' physical and mental aspect of their games and prepare the girls for national and W-League selection.
The centre was established in 2000 to ensure Victoria's female players had access similar to their male counterparts in the Victorian Institute of Sport program.
Fotopoulos pulled the boots on eight years ago.
Her ambition is to play professionally with the Melbourne Victory in the national W-league and the Matildas.
The year 9 student at Avila College said the scholarship was an important step in her development.
"It's much more professional coaching and playing with a harder competition [at the centre.]
"It will help me grow and become a better player, and I never thought I'd get a scholarship.
"I just love the game in general and I'll just have to keep working hard to become the best player I can be."
