IF you were looking forward to a game of soccer in Oakleigh on Friday night, you would have been bitterly disappointed.
The Cannons rolled up to their home game at Jack Edwards Reserve against Altona Magic to find what appeared to be fertiliser on the ground.
Sources said it appeared the ground had been fertilised.
Monash Council, which manages the surface, failed to respond to the Journal's inquiries by deadline.
Cannons general manager Aki Ionnas confirmed senior and reserve matches were called off by Football Federation Victoria officials due to possible health issues related to the fertiliser. The FFV revealed the postponement on its website on Friday.
Mr Ionnas said the council had not informed the Cannons of any plans to fertilise the main ground.
"[The council] didn't notify us, but we're all human. We're not going to take any grudges against them. They might have misunderstood it was a home game."
Mr Ionnas said the club would speak with the council today to determine exactly what had happened and would sit down with the FFV and reschedule the match.
He said the club had notified its fans and the FFV had notified Altona Magic, but it is understood there were still
several fans disappointed at being turned away.
A source told the Journal there had been other incidents involving fertiliser on the grounds at the reserve.
The Cannons take on South Melbourne on Friday night at Jack Edwards Reserve.
