PRIDE and passion finally came out to play at the Jack Edwards Reserve on Wednesday night.
The Oakleigh Cannons rounded off their Premier League season with a 1-0 defeat of Altona, arguably their best home performance of the season.
After losing 1-4 to Green Gully on Sunday, a loss which effectively ended their hopes of playing in the finals, the Cannons blooded a host of new youngsters against Altona and looked much better.
They had pace from midfield and were always worrying the Altona defence.
Never more so than in the 55th minute when a quick break led to a corner from which Felix Roshman bobbed up to head home inside the far post.
A desperate Altona, for whom the loss could be the difference between playing in the finals series or not, tried all they knew to break down the Cannons' defence, but it held firm.
The round 19 game was played on Wednesday after initially being postponed when Monash Council dressed the pitch with fertiliser only hours before the match was originally due to be played on Friday, July 24.
The Cannons round off their Premier League season on Saturday at Hume City.
