OAKLEIGH CANNONS 3 (1)
AIS 1 (0)
THE Oakleigh Cannons' dream start to the 2008 Foxtel Cup campaign continued on Saturday.
The Cannons brushed aside title upstarts the AIS 3-1 in a match that was played at Morwell in the Latrobe Valley.
Before the game the Cannons and the AIS were one and two on the Foxtel Cup ladder, with the Oakleigh side having played one more game courtesy of their round 10 clash with Fawkner being brought forward to Easter Monday.
The Cannons have now consolidated their position and could have a three-point lead depending on other results from the weekend.
One goal in the first half and two in the second sealed the points for the Cannons.
Frankie Lagana hit the back of the net in the 25th minute, Felix Rosman scored soon after half-time and Trent Waterson sealed the game in the 73rd minute.
Kofi Danning scored a consolation goal for the AIS in the 90th minute.
With the game in the bag, Cannons' coach Stuart Munro rang the changes from the bench, replacing Lagana in the 52nd minute with Scott MacNicol; Milos Lujic in the 73rd minute with Taxiarhis Apostolikas and Bill Damianos in the 79th minute with Stuart Kelly.
The pressure showed at times with the AIS having four players booked and Peter Cvetanovski sent off, while Lagana and Adam Ewin were booked for the Cannons.
Foxtel Cup top 10 (part round 6):
Oakleigh Cannons 17 points, AIS 13, Richmond 11, Melbourne Knights 11, Altona Magic 9, Preston Lions 8, Green Gully Cavaliers 8, Coburg Utd 7, Heidelberg Utd 6, South Melbourne 3, Western Suburbs 3.
The Cannons will look to continue their winning form when they meet Preston Lions at Jack Edwards Reserve on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. The Lions, sixth on the ladder, will be full of confidence after a 1-4 hammering of Coburg United in round 5 and an anticipated win against South Melbourne on Sunday.
