OAKLEIGH'S Victorian Amateur Football Association finals hopes have all but disappeared after it was thumped by 57 points by Old Ivanhoe on Saturday.
A fairly even low-scoring first term saw the Krushers trail by seven points at the first change, but things got worse in the second when the opposition kicked four unanswered goals.
An improved second half by Oakleigh wasn't enough to bridge the gap as Ivanhoe grew in confidence and outgunned the embattled Krushers. Tim Scott was active with four goals, while Steve Buchanan had his hands full at full back in the Krushers' 9.9 (63) to 17.18 (120) loss.
The reserves lost 4.6 (30) to 11.17 (83) after trailing by only 19 points at half-time before injuries and a send off left them unable to match a hard-finishing Ivanhoe. Tom Nelson kicked two goals, with Troy Murphy and Simon Way among Oakleigh's best.
The thirds also found Old Ivanhoe too strong and copped a 103-point thumping. Tim Ziegler and Gonzalo Valenzuela were standouts for the Oaks and the goals were shared around.
The under-19s were the one shining light for the day, defeating Monash Blues by 126 points. Paul Tsoucalas was again the standout down forward with 12 goals, with Aaron Shaw and Adam Mathiesson leading the way upfield.
The under-18s suffered a shock loss after leading all day. Going into the final term 17 points up, the young Krushers were overrun by a hard-finishing St Bedes/Mentone and went down by three points.
Aaron Cloke and Matt Podesta booted two goals each.
