Oakleigh nods at finals hopes

28 Jul, 2008 12:10 PM
OAKLEIGH overcame a fired-up Mazenod to post its fifth win on the trot and cement second spot of the ladder on Saturday.

The Krushers led by nine points at quarter time but the Nodders hit back in the third term to lead by seven.

Oakleigh was fortunate not to be further behind after failing to convert several scoring opportunities.

The Krushers held on to the advantage and won by 20 points, 13.13 (91) to 10.11 (71), in a thrilling match.

Tim Edwards again led the goalkicking with four, with Trevor Bromley and Daniel Costigan kicking three each.

The reserves also had a tight and hard-fought affair to win by 10 points. Ash Kitts celebrated his return from injury with five goals.

The under-19s lost against Mazenod, with Jess Pickett the leading goalkicker with four.

The Club 18 team went to Gunn Reserve in Ormond and, although it had its chances, couldn't quite overcome the home side, succumbing by nine points.
