FORMER Oakleigh Chargers star Dan Hannebery has won the NAB AFL Rising Star award for his outstanding season with the Sydney Swans.
Hannebery, 19, was presented the Ron Evans Medal by last year's winner, Daniel Rich, at Crown Palladium last week.
The former Xavier College pupil averaged 21 possessions per game in his 19 matches this season as well as excelling in the clinches.
Sydney Swans coach Paul Roos said Hannebery had performed at a consistently high level this year.
"One of the things that young players generally go through is a mental lapse or a number of games where they struggle, but this has certainly not been the case with Dan," Roos said.
"His ability to have an impact in all of the games he has played has been really significant and a great number of his games have been of a very high quality."
Hannebery, from the Kew Rovers Junior Football Club, was selected by Sydney with its second-round selection at the 2008 AFL draft and was selection No.30 overall.
He represented Vic Metro in the 2000 AFL under-18 championships and turned heads at the 2008 AFL draft camp, where his endurance was highlighted by his first placing in the three-kilometre time trial.
Hannebery is the second Sydney Swans player to claim the Rising Star award. Adam Goodes won in 1999.
