Tooronga Malvern, with its finals hopes dwindling, hit back to post four unanswered goals in the third quarter.
Springvale coach Steve Hughes said of the loss: "We couldn't win the ball, our accountability and direction in the third was very disappointing.
"I can handle a loss but we need to learn from them and get better. If blokes go and do their own thing for 30 minutes we'll never get better.''
Tooronga Malvern sealed the match by kicking four goals in the final term to win 11.7 (73) to 8.12 (60).
Half-back Jason Hall was again good in defence while Nigel Scott continued his good season.
Clayton travelled to East Brighton and, after an even first quarter, gained the ascendancy to lead comfortably by half-time.
East Brighton fought back to lead by seven points at the final break, hanging on to win a thriller, 14.15 (99) to 13.15 (93).
Oakleigh Districts continued its winning ways, accounting for Black Rock.
Never threatened, Oakleigh won 16.13 (109) to 13.13(91).
It was a dominant performance by ladder leader Mt Waverley to keep Cerberus goalless in a resounding 103-point victory, 14.24 (108) to 0.5 (5).
