THE Oakleigh Chargers had a impressive 75 point first round win over the Eastern Ranges on Saturday.

Kicking with the wind in the first quarter, the Chargers started well and led the Ranges by three goals in the fist five minutes.

Onballers Xavier Gotch, James Strauss, Luke Shuey and Matt Kilpin dominated the stoppages, and with forwards John Nicolopoulos, Billy Burstin, and Jayden Hoegel, the Chargers kicked eight goals to one in the opening quarter.

Despite their turn kicking with the breeze the Ranges couldn't penetrate the Chargers defence, led by Mark Lisle, Justin Van Unen and Daniel Hannebery.

Although it was a more even contest, the Chargers led by 41 points at half-time.

The Chargers extended their lead in the third term through some terrific team football. Ruckmen Zac Clarke and Pat McMahon continued to dominate the air, and gave strong support to running players Matt Wall, Michael Thomson and Josh Purcell and led by 73 points at three-quarter-time.

Kicking against the wind in the final quarter, the Chargers continued their dominance with goals from Nicolopoulos, Hoegel, Van Unen and Shuey provided to win by 75 points in a stunning start to the season.

Next week the Chargers are playing the Western Jets.
