MONASH Blues lost a tough Anzac Day encounter against Beaumaris by 20 points in the VAFA on Saturday.
The Blues kicked the first two goals of the match and led by a goal at quarter time, but Beaumaris hit back early in the second term and led by five points at half-time.
The third quarter was all one-way traffic, as Beaumaris broke open the game with its superior pace and skill.
Monash had limited opportunities in front of goals but they were able to convert those they did have to trail by only 16 at three-quarter time.
While Monash had more inside 50s, its inability to hit targets proved costly, allowing Beaumaris to break away in the final term to win 11.3 (69) to 7.7(49).
Monash reserves lost to Beaumaris 6.18 (54) to 5.5 (35), Club 18 defeated Old Brighton 9.7 (61) to 9. 4 (58), while the under-19s defeated Melbourne High School Old Boys, 16. 9 (105) to 8.13(61).
