Auskick makes its mark

GETTING a kick out of football is something the Glen Waverley Rovers Auskick Clinic does well.

The Saturday clinic at Brentwood Reserve was given top 40 status out of more than 650 Auskick centres this month.

The centre received a "super centre" resource kit, including a ball carry bag, bibs, ground markers and whistles.

Co-ordinator Martin Giles said the centre had grown from 74 registrations in 2004 to the biggest in Monash, up to more than 180 so far this year.

But he said the top 40 honour was given not only to the biggest centres but also to those with initiative and enthusiasm for the program.

The club is often visited by AFL footballers and keeps its season fun with an annual Olympics day, night clinics, parents versus children games and free barbecues.

Giles said the centre's success justified the move to Brentwood Reserve to join the Rovers, who won the City of Monash Sports Club of the Year in 2006. To take part in Auskick, call Martin Giles on 0412294868.
