Uniting stays in top four despite loss to Cavaliers

25 Feb, 2008 09:27 AM
SOUTHERN CRICKET LEAGUE

THE Cavaliers have gone through the season undefeated after a convincing win over Mount Waverley Uniting on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Mount Waverley Uniting remained in the four and will play Glen Waverley in the semi-finals.

Glen Waverley finished round 11 on a high note posting 359 against Toorak-Prahran, which seems destined to be relegated to the Mackay Shield next season.

The Glen has struck great batting form with Leigh Murphy continuing on in his unbeaten century of last week to eventually make 177.

Trinity, which was promoted this season to the league's premier grade, has had a good season and extends it by competing in the finals series.

In the Menzies Shield, Notting Hill Brandon Park's Cameron Marshall finished his season on a great note.

He took 6-16, including a double hat-trick, against Emerald Hill, which despite its low score still managed to gain first innings points over the combine, whose batting has been a disappointment all year.

The semi-finals next week see Cavaliers play Trinity and Glen Waverley coming up against Mount Waverley Uniting.

Past form gives no indication as to the outcome of these games as, in a quirk of fate, the last time these teams were due to play each other, inclement weather forced the encounters to be abandoned without any play being possible.
