RICHMOND has moved into sixth place on the Premier Cricket ladder after receiving six points from its abandoned game with Hawthorn-Monash University.
Umpires abandoned play after an hour at Monash University last Saturday when they deemed the pitch unsafe due to excessive moisture on its surface.
The Tigers, after starting play at 1-118 chasing 191, lost 4-21 before the umpires reviewed the pitch and ended play.
Both teams applied to receive the points. On Wednesday, the pennant committee met and upheld the Tigers application, giving them six points and the Hawks zero points.
The committee accepted Hawthorn-Monash University’s submission about the pitch - ground curators said they had misjudged watering levels during a difficult week leading up to game day.
The week included warm weather, some mid-week junior representative cricket matches, and persistent cloudy conditions last Saturday.
The committee levelled a $250 fine on Hawthorn-Monash for a breach of rule 3.7 which covers failure to meet an engagement or have a ground fit for play.
The committee also commended the umpires for their actions during the match.
