St James batsmen hit top form with 415

25 Jan, 2010 10:06 AM
FINALS contender Chadstone Harlequin had its work cut out after day one against StJames Malvern Valley in the Menzies Shield section of the Southern Cricket League on Saturday.

Languishing near the bottom of the competition ladder, StJames posted a mammoth 5-411, with Nathan Monaghan (151) and John Dalwood (124 not out) starring in a second wicket partnership of

216.

Second-placed MtWaverley Uniting also chased leather in its game against Monash and will need a strong batting performance to overtake its opponent's score of 275.

DWarner (99) and and OGould (96) were the backbone of Monash's score of 275.

In the Mackay Shield, Madhu Savode returned the best bowling figures of the season so far, capturing 8-10, including a double hat-trick against Glen Waverley, which managed a dismal total of only 30 in their first innings against the grade leaders, Salesian Old Boys.
