WITH three rounds to go, the top four in the Menzies Shield is all but confirmed following the completion of round 8.
The top four teams are Cavaliers, Mt Waverley Uniting, Mt Waverley Catholics and Glen Waverley, with St James Malvern Valley and Glen Waverley Cougars in fifth and sixth positions but 12 points outside the top quartet of teams.
The prospect of a close game between Mt Waverley Uniting and Notting Hill Brandon Park did not eventuate when Uniting extended its overnight score from 6-117 to 7-252 declared.
Ben Dix, who starred on the first week of the match with 8-40, followed up with an unbeaten 104 not out batting at No.8 in Uniting's first innings.
In Mackay Shield, St Paul's Glen Waverley confirmed its top spot and is 12 points ahead of Salesian Old Boys.
