THE composition of the top four is settled for Menzies Shield cricket and now the attention is focused on the semi-final match-ups.
The most decisive match appears to be the clash between Mt. Waverley Uniting and Glen Waverley, which are second and third respectively on the ladder.
Batting all day, Uniting set the Glen a tall task, compiling 9-280 with Tarquin Leaver contributing 114 and Luke Hannerman scoring 65.
Although the consistent Glen Waverley batting could chase this score it will nevertheless require a better-than-average performance.
Top-placed Cavaliers' bowlers did well to restrict Glen Waverley Cougars to just 127 and are favourites to get the necessary runs this week despite losing 3-40 at stumps.
Mt Waverley Catholics' strength all year has been its bowling, having had the fewest runs scored against them in the Menzies Shield.
But for the second game in a row their opponents have posted a total in excess of 200, so they will have to bat well to secure victory.
In Mackay Shield, St Johns Elsternwick recorded the highest score of the day, amassing 3-388 declared against Chadstone Harlequin.
Stars of their batting were David O'Connor with 200 not out and David Logan with 134.
