THE Southern Cricket League will investigate the reasons behind a mid-game forfeit from Chadstone Harlequin during a Mackay Shield clash with St Pauls Glen Waverley on Saturday.
Chadstone forfeited the game after being bowled out for 14 and the Weekly understands the club did not return to the field after comments made by St Pauls players during Harlequin's innings.
The conduct of both teams will be investigated by the league this week.
League secretary Bruce Dowland said the league was waiting on a report from the umpires. "So the result of the forfeit is not finalised as it could change after the investigation. With all the cricket we have lost this season the last thing we want is teams forfeiting like this. We don't want this kind of ill-feeling in matches."
With one day to play in the home-and-away series, the final composition of the Menzies Shield top four was still to be decided.
Ladder leader Glen Waverley managed only 145 against second-placed Notting Hill Brandon Park. The winner of the Chadstone Harlequin and Mt Waverley Catholics fixture will go into the finals series.
