THEY have the time, now do they have the patience?
Hawthorn-Monash University will resume at 1-27 chasing Carlton's 7-327 declared at Monash University this Saturday.
Teenage opener Liam Tonkin (14 not out) and reinvigorated No. 3 Gaurav Kapoor (seven not out) will return to the crease
Earlier on day one, the Hawks performed with energy and application, making the Blues earn their runs at 5-200.
But in the later stages of the day the visitors took control via a century from captain Nathan Pilon (143 not out), who joined with Lachlan McKenna (43) to make a 121-run sixth-wicket stand.
Hawks coach Keith Jansz said his side had to improve its mental strength and bowling pressure beyond the first 60 overs.
"Our ability to sustain that pressure is not up to the mark at this stage of the season," he said.
But Jansz said the Hawks remained confident that if they could bat through the day against the Blues' strong bowling line-up, they would be in with a chance.
"There is no doubt that if the other boys all dig in and we are still batting at 5.30pm then we will be in a good position."
■ Richmond and Victoria captain Cameron White made a brilliant 147 with 19 fours and two sixes as the Tigers set Prahran a monster chase in their Premier Cricket clash at Toorak Park. The Tigers made 9-318 with Daniel Satori (60) and Will Sheridan (51) also making key contributions.
The Hawks resume their innings at Monash University this Saturday at 11am.
