Batsmen fail to fire for the Glen

08 Feb, 2010 04:48 PM
MENZIES Shield ladder leader Glen Waverley faces its first loss of the season against reigning premier Mt Waverley Catholics.

The Glen's strong batting line-up failed and collapsed to be all out for 112. The best of the bowlers were O Morros (5-39) and A Barake (4-21).

Notting Hill Brandon-Park's quest for a finals berth faltered as it chased leather all day against Toorak-Prahran, which amassed 8-353.

The Cavaliers' long run of victories appears over as they collapsed against the bowling of B Dix (5-27) from Mt Waverley Uniting, which is 10 runs short of a first-innings victory.

In other games on Saturday, a Southern Cricket League batting record of 316 not out was scored in 4th grade.

D Bennett hit an unbeaten 316 for Syndal Baptist against Oakleigh District Footballers to set the record. Bennett was associated in a third-wicket partnership of 162 with M Lane (51) and an unbeaten 223 fifth-wicket partnership with A McCully (101 not out).

Also in 4th grade, Cavaliers dismissed St Andrews Gardiner for just 36 and then scored 5-347. N Warnakula made 170 and S Hewavitharana followed up his bowling effort of 5-9 with a 101 not out.
