Falcons secure six new players

29 Jan, 2008 03:06 PM
THE Waverley Falcons have signed six new players for the Big V season.

In a major coup, the women's squad has recruited Opals squad member and WNBL Bendigo Spirit player Kathleen MacLeod.

MacLeod has been a major asset in the Spirit's push for finals in their inaugural year in the WNBL competition, taking to the court in her strongest season yet with an average of 15.1 points and 5.1 assists per game.

She will be joined by Bulleen Boomers' WNBL squad member Lill Keane and former Eltham Wildcats star Suzi Porter (nee Raymant), who led her team with an average of 15 points and 7 rebounds throughout the 2007 Big V season.

With South Dragons recruit Shannon Seebohm out of action due to illness, the Falcons' men's side has boosted its squad with the addition of Seebohm's NBL teammate Brad Hill.

Originally from South Australia, Hill spent the last two seasons playing in the NBL for the Adelaide 36ers before going to the Dragons this season.

Joining Hill will be Singapore Slingers rookie Chris Cameron, who took to the court for the Kilsyth Cobras in the SEABL competition, averaging 19.6 points and 7.1 rebounds, earning himself a selection for the All-SEABL South Men's team.

Perth native Simon Blennerhasset has also signed on as a Falcon for 2008.

Waverley Falcons' general manager Mike Bullock said the club was looking forward to seeing its new players in action. "I am excited to be bringing this quality of players into our club and hope that we can be a club that can produce competitive basketball for the Big V League."

The Big V season starts on March 29 with final fixtures to be released by the league on Friday.
