WAVERLEY catcher Grant Karlsen can finally add Victorian baseball silverware to his mantelpiece after a successful Claxton Shield campaign.
Victoria defeated South Australia 2-0 in the best-of-three series, with Karlsen sitting out of the second game.
"I didn't play too well, and I can't help but think it had something to do with me missing the decider," he said.
In 2007, Karlsen was cut from the Victorian Aces' Claxton Shield-winning team in favour of a 15 year-old upstart - now playing college baseball in the US.
"I still cop grief from the boys about missing that series - for a 15 year old," he said. "It's a relief to finally have a bit silverware to take home."
Karlsen juggles his playing role with Croydon (winter) and Waverley (summer) with a position as baseball development officer at Baseball Victoria.
"We have a really young side, it's a good sign for future competitions," he said.
"This is as high as it gets.
"A few of these guys might get the chance to tour with the national team at the world and intercontinental cups."
