With a cut of 8%, water thrift's right at home in Monash

31 Aug, 2009 11:37 AM
MONASH residents have earned praise for their water-saving ways.

Eastern Metropolitan MP Brian Tee said latest figures from Victoria's water suppliers showed Monash households had reduced their water consumption by 8per cent over the past 12 months.

Monash's performance was more than the Melbourne average of 5.6per cent, Mr Tee said.

The best-performing Monash suburb was Mulgrave, which used 9per cent less water than the previous year.

"This is a fantastic effort, one that every Monash resident should be proud of."

Mr Tee said the Government was addressing the challenge of climate change with its Target 155 program encouraging water conservation.

"The figures suggest that the Government's initiatives are working and its water-saving messages are getting across. I would like to congratulate those in my electorate and all Melburnians for their water-saving efforts."
