Warrigal Road bus boost

26 Oct, 2009 12:00 AM
SAFETY and bus routes will be improved along Warrigal Road after $950,000 in State Government funding was announced.

Burwood MP Bob Stensholt said the boost would fund exclusive bus lanes on Warrigal Road, from High Street to Gardiners Creek Bridge, a south-bound bus lane from the Gardiners Creek Bridge to The Boulevard lights and the installation of 40kmh lights at the Holmesglen Shopping Centre.

The bus route improvement will provide exclusive bus lanes for about 450 metres in both directions on Warrigal Road, between High Street Road and Gardiners Creek Bridge.

‘‘This project is part of a range of measures being progressively introduced across the metropolitan area to reduce travel times and improve reliability for road-based public transport,’’ Mr Stensholt said.

‘‘Once the bus lanes are installed, no vehicles [except buses] will be allowed to stop or park along Warrigal Road during clearway times. As an orbital SmartBus route, improvements will help manage congestion on Warrigal Road, reduce bus delays and improve reliability.’’

Works for each of these projects will start early next year.
