WORKERS at a Mt Waverley business will celebrate their cultural diversity with a Taste of Harmony lunch ahead of National Harmony Day on March 21.
Employees of Emcorp Solutions will be among more than 1500 Australian workplaces to cook and share delicious foods for the event, which ran for the first time last year.
Staff are encouraged to bring dishes that reflect their cultural background, or simply create a tasty treat that intrigues them.
Emcorp Solutions sales director Paul Brody said the event, an initiative of the Scanlon Foundation, would enable his staff to get to know each other better.
"We have a diverse workplace.
We've got about 50 people in our Mt Waverley office, including about 15 Indians, quite a few Albanian girls, a few Greeks, Macedonians, Croatians, New Zealanders, Malaysians, two Bangladeshis and one Frenchman."
Mr Brody said his staff were excited about the lunch on March 18 and had been preparing for some time. "The girls are particularly enthused about it. They've been thinking about it for about six months."
Employee Jessica Memeti, 19, said she would prepare a traditional Albanian dish for the lunch. "It's called burek - it's like a pastry with cheese inside. You put ricotta and other cheese in it and bake it for half an hour or so."
She said the event was important and staff were excited about tasting new foods.
"You get to know a little bit about other people's culture."
