VICROADS today confirmed traffic signals would be built at a notorious Clayton shopping strip.
On June 15, the Journal reported the family of 78-year-old Clayton resident Anna Tsavasilis, who was killed at Centre Road on August 1, would picket the street in an attempt to get VicRoads to construct a crossing.
Mrs Tsavasilis's death followed the injury of four pedestrians and 10 people in cars in car crashes near the shopping strip between Knight Street and Frank Avenue in the past six years.
Today VicRaods Metropolitan South East regional director Duncan Elliott confirmed funding had been secured for the installation of traffic signals.
The State Government will fund traffic signals on Centre Road at the intersection of Knight Street in Clayton, he said.
The signals will cost $580,000 with Kingston Council to contribute $50,000 towards the project.
Mr Elliott said detailed design had commended with installation to begin in early 2010.
