PARENTS are being asked to keep a close eye on their children as images of Victoria's bushfires continue to dominate in the media.
Glen Jones, team leader of Anglicare Parentzone, said it was important to be honest with children and discuss their concerns openly. He said while some parents might restrict the amount of media pictures their children see, they should also talk about how they have felt about the bushfires.
It was important to talk with their children, particularly if they experienced nightmares, had sleep problems or showed signs of withdrawal.
Mr Jones said the issue should be kept at a simpler level for younger children because they could not think of the bushfires in "concrete terms".
