EXTRA security measures will be used to deter violence between supporters of Oakleigh Cannons and Preston Lions when the soccer clubs meet at Jack Edwards Reserve next week.
No tickets will be sold at the gate and the match has been moved from Friday night to 11am on Sunday.
The arrangements were agreed to by Football Federation Victoria, the clubs, Oakleigh police and Monash Council.
FFV spokesman Mark Murray said the moves were taken because
the fixture was classified as "medium to high risk".
"[The] FFV has been working with Victoria Police and a security firm to ensure that the match can be played without incident.
"There will be appropriate security measures in place on the day and supporters of both clubs are reminded to check their respective club websites for details on how to pre-purchase their tickets."
In previous years, fans of Oakleigh, which has a large Greek following, and Preston, with a Macedonian following, have clashed violently during the Cannons' home games.
Similar measures taken at an Oakleigh v Preston match in July last year were deemed successful after few incidents were reported - except for two flares thrown in the car park after the game ended.
The match is at 1pm on Sunday at Jack Edwards Reserve, Edward Street, Oakleigh. To pre-purchase tickets, visit www.oakleigh-cannons.com.au or
