In two national competitions in two weeks, Mount View Primary School pupils proved themselves among Australia's hottest young chess talent.
Pupils Allen (pictured), Kit Ming, Michael, Kevin and Allen finished equal-second in both the Australian schools team championships in Brisbane and in the national Chess Kids finals at Monash University this month.
On countback, the budding grandmasters were respectively awarded fourth and third places.
Teacher Arnis Putnins said the school was "one bad round" short of being national champion in Brisbane, but had cemented a place as one of Australia's top seven schools in chess.
