Saved reserve's celebration a bittersweet affair

ALMOST 40 years ago, the Damper Creek Reserve in Mt Waverley was saved from subdivision and road construction by a community group.

This month, the Friends of Damper Creek Reserve will

mark their efforts in saving the reserve with a community celebration and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

The celebrations will be a bittersweet occasion following the death of founding member Barry Hunter last month.

Friends of Damper Creek Reserve president Campbell Miles said the reserve was a precious bushland oasis in the middle of a busy suburb.
