Rotary gift lifts respite centre

31 Mar, 2008 09:28 AM
THANKS to a Rotary club donation, visits to a Mt Waverley respite centre for adults with disabilities are set to be more entertaining.

The Rotary Club of Wheelers Hill donated five TVs and six DVD players to Scope's Winbourne Road Respite Centre.

The equipment, bought using proceeds from last year's City of Monash mayoral charity golf day, will be mounted in the centre's five bedrooms and a family room.

The 24-hour centre gives carers a break by offering short-term accommodation for people with disabilities.

Rotarian Kath Taylor said the service was so much in demand that bookings needed to be made in writing up to five months in advance.

She welcomed donations of unwanted DVDs to entertain guests.

"It doesn't matter even if they are children's DVDs as they can still be very entertaining to many of the residents."
