AN East Oakleigh family is calling for information from witnesses of an alleged hit-and-run incident that left a 68-year-old woman lying on Clayton Road.
Leakhana Om was allegedly struck by a truck at 11am on August 27, and was only found when passing ambulance paramedics noticed her lying on the side of the road.
Mrs Om allegedly told the paramedics she had been hit by a truck that failed to stop at the scene.
She was taken to The Alfred hospital with a fractured pelvis, a fractured collarbone, a torn diaphragm, a ruptured heart and a collapsed lung, among other injuries.
Her daughter Neary said despite Mrs Om's injuries, she was recovering well.
"She's been moved out of the intensive care unit and she's doing very well for someone who has had so many life-threatening injuries.
"It was pretty shocking to hear. We're still quite upset.
"Lucky for Mum the ambulance pulled over, because no one else had stopped."
The family is still trying to find out what happened.
Miss Om appealed for anyone who saw the incident to go to the police.
"Mum is such a helping and caring person.
"She's a nurse; she'd never do this to anyone, and no one would want this to happen to their mum. (We want) the driver to come forward, or if anyone knows anything about it - I'm sure at least one person knows about it or saw it. I think it's the right thing to do."
Oakleigh Senior Sergeant Gary Ogden said he was surprised no witnesses had come forward with information. 'The fact that it happened during the day on such a busy road, you would think there would have been someone around," he said.
